  1. Hi, Sue. I've just been watching a documentary about the Solar System and the presenter, Professor Brian Cox, said that everything is connected. He's an astronomer who regularly criticises astrology but isn't what he said the basic principle of astrological theory?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Ah, yes.... 'The Planets'. Excellent documentary series. Personally, I both admire Professor Cox (I used to be an astronomer) and at the same time find him incredibly irritating. Like most of his kind - he's a particle physicist - he despises astrology and astrologers. Yet, strangely, he often makes comments which actually back up the theory of astrology!

He even said that the planets influence each other and that they form a system that is an interdependent mechanism. All of which is exactly what astrologers have been saying for decades....

I once saw another astronomical documentary where an astrophysicist claimed that the entire universe has intelligence and that everything in it influences everything else. More astrology!

My theory is that they know astrology works, but for some reason we have yet to discover, they are obliged to deny it and perpetuate the myth that the stars and planets are purely physical.

Anyone have any ideas - or conspiracy theories?

  3. Sue, do you think that the MC accurately represents the career path in someone's natal chart?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Excellent question. No, I've never found the MC to be an indicator of career. However, the connections it makes to planets in the chart can symbolise the career or vocation.

For example, my natal MC is in the sign of Sagittarius. What I do is not really symbolised by that sign, but the degree of my MC is in hard aspect to my natal Uranus - the planet which rules astrology. I guess in some way Sagittarius could be connected though as that sign is all about communicating with people from faraway places which is what happens through the blog.

On its own, the MC tends to represent the ideal career rather than the one you're actually doing. It's what you aspire to be. Most of all, the MC seems to symbolise your public image.

    1. I'm assuming you mean Pluto in the 1st house of your natal chart?

If you're born with Pluto in the first house of your birth chart you'll have a very powerful personality. However, the way you use your power will be very important. If you reach out to other people then you'll find you have great influence, but hold this power in and you may experience continual crises in your life as a result of your intense feelings and emotions. With Pluto in this position, you will need to learn how to handle your inner strength and dramatic reactions without overwhelming those around you.

  6. Hi sue, I have a question about my niece, my family have recently decided to move back to Norway and because social services have previously gotten involved with my niece when she was staying with her parents she was brought here to the UK to live with us and my mother become her legal guardian.

However, given my mother's age my sister has some concern that they might still take her away. Is it possible to take a quick look into her chart to see if it would be good for her to move back?

    1. Hi. Unfortunately, I am unable to help you as I stopped taking requests for personal horoscope readings in 2017.

If you read the beginning of this thread, you'll see that it's for people who want to know more about astrology, already have some background knowledge or have accessed their own chart.

      I'm very sorry.

  7. how does mercury retrograde affect Geminis?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo so both of these signs tend to feel the effects of Mercury Retrograde very strongly whether as Sun signs or Rising signs. People born with Mercury in a prominent position of their natal chart will also be more susceptible to the retrograde infuence. For example, I have Mercury conjunct my natal Ascendant, and for me, it has a very powerful effect.

Mercury retrograde does seem to affect us all in one way or another. This is because, of all the planets, Mercury is the one which is connected to so many of our everyday routines. Phones, computers, transport, talking, reading, writing, etc. It's the planet of communication and commerce. So, when Mercury changes direction things go haywire! Phones malfunction, computers crash, cars (and other vehicles) break down. Exchanging information becomes dodgy too - letters get lost in the mail, or maybe you send the wrong email or text message to the wrong person. Say something, and it's more likely than usual that other people will misinterpret your words, or the meaning behind them. It's equally likely that you will take other people the wrong way too. Be careful what you say, read and write under this Mercury influence.

it's important to realise that Mercury Retrograde can actually be a good influence. It's all about reviewing your situation. Imagine that you're driving along a road. This is symbolic of Mercury moving forwards. Now imagine slowing down, stopping, then doing a u-turn and driving back along the same road in the opposite direction. This is the real effect of Mercury retrograde. It's not about going backwards - it's about retracing your journey and taking another look at where you've been. Then, you can reassess your progress and decide whether or not you're actually on the right road.

It's important not to start anything new under this influence, and particularly with Mercury, don't sign any important contracts or documents. Mercury retrograde is not about doing - it's about re-doing what has already begun. It gives us the opportunity to stop and think about where we're going and what we're doing. A second chance to do the right thing.

The current Mercury Retrograde period ends on 16th August.

  8. Hi Sue, what does it mean Neptune is transitioning in your 12th house?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi :-)

Each person's fully calculated birth chart is divided into 12 sections called houses. The 12th house is the final section.

Neptune transitioning - or more usually transiting - any sign or house lasts for a period of almost 15 years. Neptune transiting your 12th house will bring you closer to the spiritual side of life. Pay attention to your dreams as they will contain many important messages during Neptune's time in your 12th.

Anything to do with the mysterious, hidden side of life will grab your attention too. So, perhaps you might want to visit a medium, learn to be a magician, go on a ghost-hunting trip or discover and fine-tune your psychic abilities.

Another major effect of Neptune in the 12th is to bring out hidden talents. Art, music, photography, or acting are all possibilities. So too is the talent for healing, particularly through unorthodox methods such as hypnosis, reiki, etc.

One very important point I'd like to make is that houses in a chart can ONLY be found if the time of birth is known, so if you read about houses in a magazine horoscope page, please ignore it, it's irrelevant.

  9. if an astrologer has all your birth details except for the exact place that you were born can they still do a reading for you?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The short answer is: No.

To calculate a full natal chart you need to know the date, time and place of birth. It's possible to set up a chart using only the date but the information contained within it - and the reading from it - will be over 50% less accurate.

Using the date with only the time and no location is not possible, neither is using the date with a location and no time. Time and place rely on each other - combined with the date - in order to pinpoint the person's exact position at the moment of birth. So, we astrologers either use the date of birth on its own, or all three together.

I haven't ever encountered anyone who knows their time of birth without knowing their place of birth. The reason is that, if you know what time you were born, it's usually because you have accessed your birth certificate, in which case, you would have seen the place of birth too. There's only one possible scenario I can think of and that's if you were born prematurely on an aircraft flying over an ocean or large continent. In that case, there would be no specific landmark to refer to - although there would be map coordinates.

  12. Hi, sue when it comes to reading charts how do you work out predictions? I've been reading about this a bit and all I get is how different signs positioned in different planets can identify personalities

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi :-)

Reading charts to make predictions is a very complex process. There are several techniques to choose from: Transits, Progressions, Solar Arcs, Solar Returns, etc and most astrologers use at least two of them.

We all use Transits as this shows how the current position of the planets in the sky are aspecting (connecting to) the planets and points in someone's birth chart.

Other, more personal, techniques like Solar Arcs, use the actual birth chart and move each planet and point forward by one degree per year depending upon the person's age. So, if you are 20 years old, the planets and points in your birth chart would be moved 20 degrees from their original positions. If any of the new positions make aspects to the original birth chart degrees, this is then analysed and a prediction is made.

It's all very complicated and takes years of study. If you're an astrology student, message me again if you need more info.

  13. Hi Sue, hope you're keeping well! I recently read that cutting your hair according to the moon phase and sign gives different results e.g. when the moon is waxing it accelerates hair growth, when the moon is in a water sign, growth is slower but healthy etc. Some also recommend following the signs for other hair-related treatments, like when the moon is in Leo for dyeing and permanent styles. What do you think of this?

    1. Hi :-)

This is not something I've done much research on but I do know that Moon Lore, as it's called, is becoming more popular as people want to re-connect with nature and the cosmos. The studies which have been carried out have revealed some very interesting results and support is now being given to theories that were once seen as just superstition. Along with the Sun and the Moon is known to act as a trigger for many natural rhythms such as tides and the breeding cycles of oceanic creatures.

The Moon has been shown to have a very powerful effect on emotional behaviour. Statistics prove that there are more accidents, suicides and violent attacks during the night of the Full Moon than at any other time of the month. Also more babies are born on, or just after, a Full Moon.

Moon Lore is particularly popular in gardening as the phases of the Moon are seen as beneficial to planting and harvesting.

I'm not sure about cutting or dyeing hair when the Moon is in any particular sign, but the phases of the Moon would probably have an effect.

  14. hi sue I know you don't do personal horoscopes anymore but have you thought about charging people for it, if you do decide to start doing readings again?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, I have considered this, although as yet, I haven't made a decision.

The main problem I had with the free personal horoscopes was the amount of requests I received which reached more than 140. There was just no way it was going to be possible to get through them all, as well as juggling my usual work.

I guess charging for personal readings would reduce the amount of requests, but right now, I'm not sure if I want to go down that route again just yet. Maybe in 2020....

    1. Yes, Tarot readings can be extremely accurate. Years ago, when I was an astrology student, part of the training course involved studying other disciplines such as dream analysis, runes, palmistry, etc. But by far, the best one - apart from astrology - was Tarot.

I used to do Tarot a lot before I became a professional astrologer and had great results, possibly because Tarot card symbols are connected to astrological signs and planets.

    1. Hi :-)

Before I can answer your question I need you to be more precise. Are you referring to Mercury Retrograde as a general influence, or do you mean on a personal level?

      Delete
    2. I meant general influence but if it's okay on a personal level would be great, I'm a 3rd decan Gemini btw.

      Delete
    3. I can only do it on a personal level if you already know your own birth chart. However, here's the general description:

Mercury retrograde does seem to affect us all in one way or another. This is because, of all the planets, Mercury is the one which is connected to so many of our everyday routines. Phones, computers, transport, talking, reading, writing, etc. It's the planet of communication and commerce. So, when Mercury changes direction things go haywire! Say something, and it's more likely than usual that other people will misinterpret your words, or the meaning behind them. It's equally likely that you will take other people the wrong way too. Be careful what you say, read and write under this Mercury influence.

So, how can we 'survive' this period without going mad? After all, in the 21st century, when we rely on electronic gadgets more than ever before, a broken phone or a wonky computer tends to spell disaster for most people. Well, to ease the pressure, it's important to realise that Mercury Retrograde can actually be a good influence.

In essence, Mercury - or any retrograde planet - is not about beginning anything. And that's why it can be a very positive influence.

    1. Hi :-)

The Rising sign is the sign that was rising over the Eastern horizon at the exact time you were born. The Ascendant is the degree of that sign - in your case it's 18 Pisces - and the point where your birth chart begins. It represents your outward personality, what you show to the world on a day-to-day basis. Think of it like the cover of a book. It's the first impression people get. Then when they get to know you better, they'll begin to see more deeply into your personality.

As a Gemini, you will be bright, friendly and eager to communicate. However, with Pisces as your Rising Sign, you could be more shy when you first meet new people. Both of these signs are highly intuitive and perceptive, so you will find that you have the ability to almost read people's minds. Pisces is the rarest of all the rising signs which means that you are someone with special talents. Particularly creative writing, art, music, photography or ESP.

Is it ok if I get back to you later with some astrology book recommendations? I'll have to look them up, as it's such a long time since I studied astrology myself, I'm not sure if they're still in print lol.

    2. Hi. I've had a look on Amazon for astrology books you might find useful. This one seems promising:

It's called ASTROLOGY DECODED. The author's name is Sue (great name!) Merlyn Farebrother. I don't know her but check out her other books too.

      https://www.amazon.co.uk/Astrology-Decoded-guide-learning-astrology/dp/1846043131/ref=sr_1_14?keywords=astrology&qid=1576695301&s=books&sr=1-14

This next one is a classic. I used this - and it's companion book Predictive Astrology - when I was a student. The authors Acker and Sakoian are two of the best astrologers in the business.

      https://www.amazon.co.uk/Astrologers-Handbook-Harperresource-Book/dp/006272004X/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=the+astrologer%27s+handbook&qid=1576695928&s=books&sr=1-1

I would definitely advise you to use books rather than websites if you're serious about learning astrology. Anyone can write info on a website but they could be fakes. Books are written by experts. When I was an astrology student more than 25 years ago, there were only books - no internet - but this is still the best method.

I hope this helps with your studies. If you need more advice, please feel free to ask me again. Good luck - and Merry Christmas!

  19. Hi Sue how long does it take to learn astrology in terms of possible prediction using birth chart?

    1. Hi :-)

It's different for everyone as it all depends on how soon you can get to grips with birth chart interpretation. When I was learning astrology, I was so eager to start doing predictions, I jumped ahead and made an absolute fool of myself by getting them all wrong. So, I had to go back and study birth chart interpretation properly and then eventually I was ready to start making predictions.

My advice would be to practise analysing birth charts for a few months before attempting the more complex work of prediction. Use your family and friends to experiment on ;-)

Do you mind if I ask how long you've been studying astrology for?

House systems can be confusing as there are so many of them, some more obscure than others. When I began learning astrology, the house system most commonly used was Equal House. It's so efficient and straightforward, I've never used any other method, so this is the one I'd recommend.

    2. Thanks sue, right now I am trying to work on a particular aspect in my chart that might be easier to decipher because it has a straight line across two different houses while most of the other lines are all over the place, so for example Jupiter which I know is the planet of luck is in my 6th house which has a virgo and there's these numbers (8 virgo 17' and 4'') I'm not sure what those number mean but there is a line between that and my 12th house which has the moon in picses with the number (2 pisces 13' 36'' my sun sign is gemini and my ascendant is Pisces.

The thing that I'm struggling the most with are the red and blue lines in the chart, I know they all mean different things like the red lines can be conjunction, opposition and squares ect and I know that there are these symbols to indicate which is which like the conjunction has a circle with a short line but I don't see these symbols inside the chart and there is a red line between my 12th house and 6th house but I don't know weather it's a conjunction or opposition ect. Also I used the site you recommended astro.com do calculate my birth chart just to give more insight on how it looks like.

    4. Yeah of course! Thanks for your time :)

    5. hi, Ayan,

Ok, this is an aspect between your Moon and Jupiter. It's an opposition aspect because the Moon and Jupiter are in signs (Virgo and Pisces) which lie opposite each other across the zodiac circle.

The lines are colour-coded with red lines symbolising what we refer to as 'hard aspects' - the opposition, conjunction, and square. Blue lines symbolise 'soft aspects' such as the sextile and the trine. Aspects represent the strength of the energy passing between the two planets. With the hard aspects, the energy flow is very strong. With the soft aspects, the energy flow is gentler.

The numbers you're seeing are the exact positions of each planet and point in your chart. They are displayed as degrees, hours and minutes. However, for now, it would be a good idea for you to concentrate only on the first number as this is the most important. So, where it says that your Jupiter is 8 17 04 Virgo, just take 8 as your number of degrees. Therefore your Jupiter is at 8 degrees Virgo.

      I hope this helps.

  23. Hi Sue I hope u are doing well, just wondering if I could ask when u have done my readings in the past did u do it by hand or use a website? because I got a inaccurate reading from an astrologer before using a particular site and and I was wondering if that could be the reason and also is the equal house system the most accurate?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Both. For speed, like most pro astrologers, I use computer software to calculate the chart. The best one is online at astro.com The analysis and interpretation is done 'by hand' and is all from my years of experience, knowledge and expertise.

What is it that was inaccurate about your reading from the other astrologer? Was it the actual chart, or the interpretation? There could be a couple of possible reasons:

    1. The astrologer was a fake and doesn't actually know anything about astrology.

    2. When I did a reading for you a few years ago, you were unable to provide your time of birth. Therefore, any reading will be less accurate without the full birth data.

I have not used every house system, so I can't comment on their accuracy, but I have used Equal House for over 25 years and yes, it is extremely accurate.

Do you know the name of the other astrologer? It may be someone I'm familiar with and I could tell you if he/she is genuine or not.

    2. I've never heard of her. I checked out her Twitter page and she doesn't seem to have a website or blog. Do you know which house system she actually used?

No astrologer I know of calculates a birth chart 'by hand' anymore. That was back in the 1980s/1990s when I was a student and no-one had computers. Nowadays, all astrologers use computer software - it's fast, efficient and accurate. We always analyse the chart 'by hand' though. I'm thinking maybe this person didn't and just copied a brief interpretation from her software. Did you give her accurate birth info?

If this person gave you the wrong interpretation, it's probably because she's not a genuine astrologer, or because she is not experienced enough to do a good job.

  26. Hi Sue. I know the birth time is important in chart readings, but what exactly could you not do without it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Without the birth time it's impossible to calculate a full birth chart. There can be no Ascendant, Midheaven, house cusps or Moon degree - and sometimes not even the Moon sign. The Ascendant, Midheaven and the Moon are the most personal components in the chart, so not being able to access them is a big loss to the interpretation of the birth chart and all other charts used in forecasting and relationship compatibility.

For example, take someone born on 7th July 2003 in Manchester, England. Looking at this chart with no birth time I can see this person has the Sun in the sign of Cancer, and all the other planets in their various signs, but no way of knowing which sectors (houses) any of them are in. The Moon is in Libra but there's no indication of which degree. Therefore, finding any aspect connections to the Moon from other planets is impossible. The only points available are the Lunar Nodes - no Ascendant or Midheaven.

However, when the birth time is included - 12:30pm - the whole chart comes alive with information. We now know that the Moon is at 19 degrees Libra, in sector one, and it makes aspects to the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto. Also, the Ascendant is at 3 degrees Libra and makes aspects to Venus, Saturn and Uranus. The Midheaven is at 4 degrees Cancer and also makes aspects to Venus, Saturn and Uranus.

None of this vital information can be calculated without a birth time, so it's extremely important.

  27. Moon in Aquarius in the 3H? I read Moon in this house has good insight into others and is pretty intuitive about their environment. I also have my Neptune & Saturn in the 3rd, wonder how it effects me as well. Thank you!

    1. Yes, with Moon in Aquarius in 3H intuition is way above average. So too are communication skills, especially writing and speaking. With Saturn in 3H, you'll have a great aptitude for research. Education will be very important to you. Neptune in 3H will bring inspiration in art, music and literature.
